Short Stories

S.L. Jordan | Violet Tendencies

The brilliant fires of purple raged in the gaunt halls of the old manor, smacked with the waves like the ocean rising up and kissing the shore with all of its might. Today was no ordinary day, no. It was a day of fire, which I could feel in my bones. I paced the hall frantically, with the heels of my boots clicking against the hard marble with all of their might. Today I was to defend my title, against all odds. A flurry of voices filled the room, those with anticipation, and others out for blood. The fine marble floors, designed with all of their intricate designs wood be covered in someone’s blood today, but to whom, it was a mystery.

S.L. Jordan | All Bets are Final

“Ladies and gentlemen, come now, place your bets, but be warned, all are FINAL!” laughed the croupier, dressed sharply with a sinister, bloodstained smile draped across their plastic face. My eyes danced around the lavish and sharply dressed casino patrons. The sound of their conversations and laughter filled out the hall, extracting a merry time from all, except for me that is.

S.L. Jordan | The Icarus Irony

Through barely a whimper, the engines of my gleaning cargo ship came to a halt, leaving me hanging dead in the sky. My lifeless ship and I were frozen in orbit, aimed straight for the rocky moon below. Sitting behind the ancient controls of my star freighter, I wiped my brown and sighed in anguish. After all the battles and run-ins with pirates and the law, this was finally it. A simple failure of my warp drive would be my demise, floating lifelessly in a degrading orbit, until I either froze, cooked or asphyxiated.
